We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic individual to develop and lead recreational programs and services, which promote a healthy and active living environment for our residents.
The successful candidate’s areas of responsibility will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Designing and implementing recreational programming opportunities for all residents, this includes developing options for individual, small, and large group activities;
- Helping to create an environment that is positive, friendly, creative, and fun. Building a recreation program that enrishes the life of each resident ; ongoing auditing this programs to ensure it meets the residents’ needs and preferences, including specialized activities for any cognitively impaired residents;
- Assisting to market the home, providing tours, and encouraging potential residents to choose the residence as their new home;
- Offering new programs throughout the year, designed to reflect changing resident needs, interests and, seasons;
- Liaising with Residents’ Council on a regular basis to solicit feedback on the programs being offered and to evaluate programs;
- Assisting in the orientation of new residents;
- Ensuring a smooth transition for new residents by liasing with the appropriate departments, ensuring all revelvant information is communicated in a timely manner;
- Forecasting and monitoring expenditures from the budget allocated to recreation programs;
- Developing, planning, and executing events for residents and guests;
- Participating in and promoting the residence at planned marketing events;
- Promoting and representing the residence to foster a positive community relations program;
- Developing and maintaining relationships with community partners
- Providing leadership and is responsible for hiring, training, and scheduling of recreation staff and volunteers;
- Developing and ensuring distributing of the monthly activities calendar;
- Providing support and responding to resident and family inquiries and concerns related recreation programs;
- Ensuring compliance of all applicable legislation, for example the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 and its regulations;
- Other related duties, as assigned.
The key qualifications for this position will include, but are not limited to:
- The ideal candidate has at least two (2) years of recreation experience in a similar setting, including roles where you have demonstrated leadership;
- Graduate of a certificate/diploma or degree program in recreation or gerontology;
- Empathy for and understanding towards the needs of our senior residents;
- You are a cooperative team leader who is accountable and self-directed;
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate to our senior residents, their families, colleagues, and guests in a friendly and professional manner;
- The ability to focus on multiple tasks with ease while maintaining a warm and welcoming demeanor to residents and guests;
- Excellent organization and time management skills to manage workflow;
- Taking initiative while exercising good judgment at all times;
- The ability to conduct your work on a computer utilizing Microsoft Office programs;
- Valid G-class provincial driver’s license; an F-class licence is preferred;
- Three (3) years of experience where you were employed driving and transporting passengers is a definite asset;
- As a valued member of the management team, you will participate in the weekend Manager on Duty rotation;
- A criminal records/vulnerable sector screen, TB screening using a two-step Mantoux tuberculin test, and satisfactory professional references.
